The beautiful Valleys and the Kameng River depicting the stories of Bhutanese influence attracts the tourist to this land of Arunachal Pradesh. Dirang is a small town in the West Kameng district located about 43 km from Bomdila on the way to Tawang. This river valley is situated at relatively low altitude of 4900 ft with a pleasant weather during most of the year. Dirand Dzong is a fort of about 150 years old. Some of the stone houses around the dzong are said to be about 500 years old and draw the attention of various tourist as one can elaborate the Bhutanese influential views here. Hot Water Spring is about a kilometre ahead of the town on the way to Tawang. The hot spring is rich in sulphur content and is known to have great medicinal properties. There is facility to have bath in the hot spring which can have a magical effect on a journey-tired body. The National Research Centre on Yak is located above the main town. The centre also has a yak farm at Nyukmandung about 31 km from Dirang. The centre conducts research on genetic resources, problems associated with production. It also undertakes research on improvement of yak and its products through selection and breeding with exotic frozen semen. The research centre can be visited with permission by tourists.
